Well, the Rosedale web site says January but, in the past, they keep pushing that date back. We will just have to see.
If I was the developer, personally, I would have pushed to get the road done as quickly as possible. It has got to be pretty hard to sell homes by forcing people to go through 9th street. There is a lot of poverty on that street. Who wants to have to drive through poverty in order to get to their brand new homes. That would deter me from buying.
I have heard people that live in the Cove say that they don't drive up Azusa Avenue because is it too ugly. They used to go up Grand or Todd. And when they have visitors, they tell them to go up Todd, or Grand (when it was open). I wish that the city would close down some of those ugly liquor stores and dirty markets.
I have a feeling that sales for Rosedale will improve once Sierra Madre opens. It has to do with the psychological aspect when purchasing a home. I realize that the economy is also involved here, but how people get to Rosedale is also an important factor. I would encourage visitors to go up Grand, Baranca, or Todd and go along Sierra Madre to get to Rosedale.
It is bad enough that the police have been harassing drivers driving on Azusa and San Gabriel for several months now. That cannot be good for sales either. Other cities around us do not design their major streets to crawl the way that Azusa does. The major streets should be designed to get traffic moving through the city, not slow it down to ridiculously low speeds. Personally, I think the major streets should be 45. We are talking about highway 39, not a residential street.
