A new series of plant walks, in conjunction with the Angeles National Forest. Jane Strong is very knowledgeable volunteer for the National Forest Service, will be the organizer and leader. The first of these walks is coming up this Saturday, October 6. Here is a note from Jane, with some of the details. ========================== Mountain Plant Walks at Chilao, Saturday, October 6, 2007. Meet in the Chilao Visitor Center parking lot at 10:00 a.m. Have you ever seen a chickweed starry puncturebract? Or a threadleaf rubber rabbitbrush? Or even a bastardsage? Meet Eric A. Meria's extensive family and Eri O'Gonum's nieces and nephews in the mountains this Saturday on a car tour of the colorful plants along Highway 2, the Angeles Crest. Tour will last 2-3 hours. We will picnic at Eagle's Roost or you can go on to Newcomb's Ranch for a sit-down lunch. There will be an optional extension to the riparian area at Colby Bridge if anyone is interested after lunch. One blooming Aster greatae seen two weeks ago and fall-blooming wetland plants and deciduous trees are the attraction here. More info: sgmha.org/chilaoplantwalks.html
