10 Couples is a project in which ten gay and lesbian couples talk about their relationships and explain why marriage is necessary for them and their families. These videos will also soon be featured on 10Couples.org, where you can find tools to turn these stories into meaningful action. The videos were filmed and produced by the award-winning team at Public Interest (PublicInterest.tv).
Heather and Carol
Together for 16 years. One was diagnosed with breast cancer and then dystonia resulted. They had to fight against hospital staff 3 times. Very scary!
Jon And Robert
Jon and Robert have been together 13 years, and they talk about how they came together and how they came to the realization that they were gay. Jon concludes by talking about his advanced prostate cancer. They discuss the things they are denied because their relationship is not legally recognized.
Dick And Bob
Together since 1955. Together for more than 50 years and no spousal benefits. More than a 1000 rights that they do not have.
Steve and Mark
Together for 15 years. One is terminally ill, they have paperwork to allow the partner to make health decisions for the partner if necessary but there is not guarantee that it will be respected.
Jan and Lauren
Had trouble with adopting children because of bigotry.
Delia and Persepone
Together 10 years. Got married in San Francisco but rescinded through legislation.
Hattie and Amorie
One partner was having an operation and the other partner was ignored in getting updates even thought they were told to keep her updated.
Eric and Stan
Visa problems because they could not get married. They had to move to Canada so that they could stay together.
Octavia and Deborah
Been together for 10 years. Married for 4. Health problems. Not able to get health benefits as a couple.
Laura and Fawn
Have a child and need representation as a married couple. They are not able to put each other on their benefits like straight married couples are.
