Firefighers contain 240-acre blaze AZUSA - A wildfire that broke out Saturday and burned about 240 acres of heavy brush, chaparral and scattered timber in the Angeles National Forest north of Azusa was 100 percent contained Tuesday, authorities said. The Nowhere Fire, named after the nearby Bridge to Nowhere, was reported off Highway 39 near East Fork Road about 2:20 p.m. Saturday, the U.S. Forest Service reported. About 200 firefighters were on the line at the height of the fire, which did not threaten homes or cause any injuries. The blaze was 100 percent contained by about 6 this morning, but about 60 firefighters were kept on scene through the afternoon, said Dee Dechert of the U.S. Forest Service. They were to be ferried out by a helicopter, which would land at the heliport atop the San Gabriel Dam, she said. The area is not accessible by road. One helicopter will be assigned to the area over the next few days to make sure the blaze does not flare up again, Dechert said. The fire was believed to be human-caused, she said, but whether it was intentional has yet to be determined. www.sgvtribune.com/news/ci_4701443
