• Particle pollution poses a serious health threat. It is the nation's most dangerous air pollutant. Particle pollution causes asthma attacks, heart attacks, strokes and lung cancer and cuts short the lives of tens of thousands of Americans every year. California suffers from some of the worst particle pollution in the nation.
• The science is clear. Scientific studies clearly show that the current standards for particle pollution are far too weak to protect public health. Based on this evidence, the Bush administration's own independent science advisors and EPA staff scientists recommended that the administration substantially strengthen the standards to protect public health.
