And in regards to the State propositions, they all failed. I wonder when was the last time that happened?

I guess that means that there are now three forward thinking (Dickerson, Cruz-Gonzalez, & Hamilton) people, making a majority, on the school board now. That is wonderful. I think that this is a first for the school board.

Three seats were up for grabs and newcomer Barbara Dickerson received the second-most votes. Incumbent Lisa Harrington, who was running for a third term, finished fourth out of five candidates.

Incumbents Rosemary Garcia and Xilonin Cruz-Gonzalez finished first and third, respectively.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to work on the board and appreciate the confidence Azusa residents have given to me. I'll try to send out an inquiry card to get feedback about what they expect of the board," said Dickerson from the study of her home, where she watched election results with her husband and a few close friends.

Low test scores and too few students headed for college were some of the hot-button issues facing the Azusa Unified School District, which serves 11,650 students in 18 schools in Azusa, Covina and Glendora plus an adult education program on a $88 million budget.
