CALPRIG - The California Public Interest Research Group has come up with a list of recommendations for the election. I thought that residents might be intersted in reading their opinions: www.calpirg.org/specialelection For the special election, CALPIRG recommends: YES on Prop 79 - Affordable Medicine for More Californians www.calpirg.org/prop79Prop 79 will bring real discounts on prescription drugs to 8 to 10 million Californians. Prop 79 allows the state to use its clout as a large purchaser of prescription drugs to negotiate lower medicine prices for millions of Californians. YES on Prop 80 - No More Enrons www.calpirg.org/prop80Over 140 consumer groups, religious groups, senior organizations, workers, teachers and other ordinary Californians join CALPIRG in supporting Proposition 80, the "No More Enrons" proposition to provide affordable, reliable electricity for Californians. NO on Prop 75 - Don't Stifle Political Participation www.calpirg.org/prop75Prop 75 limits political participation by public employees through their unions while doing nothing to rein in big contributions by corporate interests. We need more participation in our democracy by ordinary Californians, not less. NO on Prop 78 - Drug Industry Smokescreen www.calpirg.org/prop78Prop 78 is another drug industry smokescreen meant to forestall the real price relief offered by Prop 79. While the premise of Prop 78 - Californians pay too much for prescription drugs - is correct, the policy of the initiative doesn't actually fix this problem.
