EPA fines Norac Inc. for hazardous waste AZUSA -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has fined Norac Inc. $9,400 for violating federal hazardous waste regulations, officials said Tuesday. As a result of inspections conducted in January at the 405 S. Motor Ave. pharmaceutical development facility, the EPA alleges Norac committed the following hazardous waste violations: - Storing hazardous waste without a permit;
- Incomplete contingency plan;
- Storing ignitable wastes less than 50 feet from the property line;
- Failure to maintain an alarm in the waste storage area; and
- Failure to maintain adequate training records.
Robert Summers, environmental health and safety director for the company, said they agreed to pay the fine because it was the quickest way to handle the dispute.
ÔÔWe haven't admitted to anything. They did an inspection, they noticed some things, we chose not to go to court,'' Summers said.
Summers said all of the issues in the complaint have been addressed.
Summers said this is the first time the U.S. EPA has issued a fine to Norac, a chemical manufacturer that has been in Azusa since the mid-1950s.
