Funding for new libraries tough to come byThe city of Azusa will still be up to bat if the June bond passes, but officials have a backup plan in case it fails. The city spent $1.5 million for consultants and other fees last year for its proposal. Azusa Mayor Diane Chagnon helped develop a private foundation to raise more than $5 million by the end of summer. The Sky's T he Limit Library Foundation would renovate the existing facility. A new building would cost about $28 million. The city has struck out on state library money three times, and competition is fierce, Chagnon said. "Our goal is to deliver something to the community that we can afford to operate and to build,' Chagnon said. "Whatever opportunities gives us that chance, we'll pursue it.'
