Give it up! Macias cannot be appointed to Council. He did not run for Council. He ran for Mayor, a totally separate position. He lost and it's over. Drop it.

Anyone, even you, can be appointed to the city council. There isn't a restriction on who the sitting council may appoint to the open seat, other than eligibility for voting and holding office.
You distinguish these as if they're apples and oranges. But the truth is that the mayor's seat differs only slightly from a council seat in that they chair the meetings, and the conventional method is that council appoints the next highest vote recipient among the races. In this case, that would be Macias, which nearly half the community voted for. If you were to exclude him (which I gather you wish to do), then it would either be just Hanks or Carrillo depending on the final results in that race.

Guest, Mr Macias has been a great asset to this city. Why would you want to lose a person who has devoted so much of his time and own money to run to serve. You are obviously missing the point. It's not personal! Maybe you really campaigned for Chagnon but don't be such a baby and fail to see that we would be loosing a very qualified person who ran a clean campaign. Maybe you can actually make an effort to meet him and ask him questions yourself if you have any doubts. You should not judge people on rumors and inuendos because anyone can start them without any basis for them. And, yes the city council can elect anyone even you (although that would look a little fishy since you are obviously one of Chagnon's campaigners). I like Carrillo but Macias is much more qualified for the position! City Council are you listening? Half of the city voted for Macias, WE THE PEOPLE OF THIS CITY DEMAND THAT YOU LISTEN TO YOUR RESIDENTS AND APPOINT MACIAS TO THE OPEN SEAT! DIANNE YOU ALWAYS SAID THAT YOU CHECK YOUR EGO AT THE DOOR. TIME HAS COME TO SHOW YOU MEAN IT!

No matter who gets the open seat it will tell the attitude of the council. Will they appoint the city council runner up or Mayoral runner up. Their appointment will tell whether Dianne really checks her ego at the door like she claimed at the candidates forums.

I also think that Macias would be an excellent person to have on the city council.
However, I don't think that it would be fair to give Chagnon's seat to Macias when the number of votes that Carrillo had were almost the same as Hanks. Also, historically speaking, I think that the previous city councils have always chosen the next highest votes to fill the previous empty seats. I have heard at least one city council person say that they will select the person that had the next highest number of votes who ran for city council. So please do not get your hopes up that it will be filled by Macias. It is highly unlikely.
Macias will probably have to wait until the next election, which I think is only in 2 years.
You would have to be able to convince the city coucil why you think Carrillo should not get that position. And I do not think that is fair. Carrillo did not do anything wrong. He ran a very clean and honest campaign from what I saw. He had to deal with being attacked by the gun club as well.
We should welcome Carrillo to the city council.

I know for a fact that the city council can appoint anyone to that position even someone who did not run. I too believe Mr Carrillo is an excellent candidate, however it is the most qualified person we need in this position and that is clearly Mr. Macias. According to Ms. Chagnon herself he shares in many of her own views and has worked well with the council during his tenure as treasurer. He openly supported the residents during the fight with the gun club, ran a clean campaign and spent mostly his own money to run for this post. Overall he did receive the third highest votes among all of those who ran( after all the Mayor's seat is just one of the council seats with a few more duties) so I believe he is in fact the third in line and most qualified not Mr. Carrillo. I'm sure Mr. Carrillo would accept this scenario graciously and he would be an excellent candidate in two years to join the team if a positon became available. If you agree with me please contact the city council via e-mail or phone calls before the 21st to express your opinion on this subject. Thank You!

URGENT! O.K. Folks here it is. Time to put your money where your mouth is! The city council is going to decide who fills the open seat on March 21st at 6:30 P.M. We can impact their decision by speaking up! PLEASE COME TO THE MEETING!
Mayor Chagnon ran her campaign on the basis that she was best for the city because of her experience. Let's see if she also puts the money where her mouth is and joins the people's belief that Mr. Macias is the most qualified and experienced and if she really checks her ego at the door like she claims. Mayor Chagnon.....THE CITY IS WATCHING YOU! THIS IS THE TIME TO MEAN WHAT YOU SAY!
Please e-mail or contact them at the following. PLEASE BE COURTEOUS WITH YOUR COMMUNICATIONS! Dianne Chagnon: dchagnon@ci.azusa.ca.us Dave Hardison: dhardison@ci.azusa.ca.us Joseph Rocha: Jrocha@ci.azusa.ca.us Keith Hanks: kwhanks@earthlink.net
