I just want to wish any muslim families living in Mtn Cove a Happy Ramadan.
For those not aware what Ramadan is, it is the Muslim holiday in which we fast during the daylight and have special prayers at night. It is to remember God giving Prophet Muhamed the message of the Qu'ran (our holy book).
Ramadan starts Friday Oct 15 at sunset and will last 30 days followed by three days of celebration, called Eid.
If anyone wants to know more about this holiday or about Islam please don't hesitate to email. Janellenmoe@yahoo.com
Coexistance and understanding of each others values and beliefs would help stop a lot of violence in the world. I believe this should begin within the home and our community. Have a great day!
Janelle and family God Bless

I'm not a Muslim, but I do respect people that are. My family and myself wish you a wonderful Ramadan. I'm also very sorry for the way many Americans and our government have treated some of people with family histories from the Middle East living in this country. I did not realize until today that the government could force people who were born here to renounce their citizenship without substantial proof that they have done wrong. story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=542&ncid=718&e=10&u=/ap/20041011/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/enemy_combatant

Wishing you 'Happy Ramadan' as well! How is Eid celebrated and what is the meaning of it?

Thank you Lester. Eid is translated to mean "Holiday". We celebrate Eid-al-Fitr (Holiday of Ramadan) by first having a big breakfast in the morning followed by a special service at the Mosque where we make a charitable donation to be given to the less fortunate and followed by prayer. After that we celebrate for three days by visiting with family, exchanging gifts, and having big feasts.

Thank you for the explaination. It sounds like a wonderful spiritual holiday. I hope that it is a very meaningful and special event for you and your family.
FYI: I don't know if you like arabic/middle eastern food or not, but there is a new small grocery store that just opened up in Glendora. It is on Foothill Blvd. in Glendora, East of the Vons shopping center, West of Glendora Avenue and Bank of America, on the North side of the street. You can find foods there that are difficult to find in other stores. At first, I thought that it was a new Indian market. I love Indian food. I bought a few things while there. I can't wait to try them. Take care.
