"I was at the City Planning Commission meeting last night and there was a development that our neighbors will be interested in. The topic for the evening was the proposed Development Code. The City staff proposed to make the gun club a nonconforming use with an accelerated timetable (5 years) in which the gun club would have to stop operations. The Planning Commission unanimously voted to change the proposed code and make the gun club a permitted use allowing the club to remain in operation permanently. I spoke to the new president of the gun club after the hearing and he said that the club is willing to make improvements that would dampen the noise, but they are not willing to spend the money and then be put out of business within a few years. If our neighbors are willing to let them make the improvements, there may be a deal that can be negotiated. Otherwise, folks may want to appear before the Planning Commission at their next meeting (Sept. 22 at 6:30 p.m.) or the City! Council (no date set yet) to express their views."
