Officials investigate possible W. Nile case
State and county officials are trying to confirm whether or not an Azusa man has been inflicted with the West Nile virus, officials said Thursday. Kelly Middleton of San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control said she had heard about the Azusa case, but the diagnosis has not been confirmed yet.
A West Covina man found out Wednesday he had the virus, which in extreme cases causes swelling of the brain, spinal chord or brain lining. Most of those who have it do not get symptoms, which includes rash, fatigue and aches, officials said. One out 150 of those infected get seriously ill.
Four other cases of West Nile virus have been reported in Los Angeles County, according to public health officials. At least two were confirmed to be in the San Gabriel Valley.
