Julie Gutierrez named Azusa city manager

Gutierrez, 41, replaces Rick Cole, who left in April to be Ventura's top official.
She steps into her new position beginning July 1, earning $138,000 a year, plus benefits.
Gutierrez was hired in August 2003 as the city's deputy city manager, making $84,000.
Cole left making $120,000, with various performance bonuses on top of his salary.
Gutierrez said her greatest challenges will be rebuilding the city's financial reserves. The city's $28 million budget has been running in the red for three years.
She also is focused on overseeing the Monrovia Nursery housing project, which will move forward after winning approval in a May election.
"I'm very excited. I've really come to enjoy and appreciate this city, and I want to see wonderful things continue and I want to be a part of it,' Gutierrez said.
Councilman Dick Stanford said Gutierrez has had responsibilities that have been equal to a city manager, especially when she worked as the public works director for the city of Pasadena.
"We are very comfortable with her coming in,' Stanford said.
Pasadena-born and raised, Gutierrez holds a master's degree in business administration from the University of La Verne.
Before coming to Azusa, she worked for three years as the chief financial officer for the Pasadena-based Center for Community and Family Services, a nonprofit agency.
Before that, she worked for the city of Pasadena. For three years she was the city's public works director, in charge of a $50 million operating and $10 million capital project budget.
Gutierrez was involved in projects such as the Old Pasadena Streetscape and Alleyways and Pasadena ARTS buses.
