The parking here is so stupid we pay all this money for our houses and dues then if people come over for a weekend or overnight we have to get permission or they get a ticket thats [glow=red,2,300]bullshit!!!!![/glow] we should only have to call once not everytime someone comes over and that security guard they got just sleeps in his car anyways they should just get cameras to watch the place

I AGREE 100%!!!!!
The only people who seem to support this parking measure are those that it is convenient to.
I know for us, it's a pain in the ass. I have one roomate that leaves for work at 1.30am and comes home at 11am while I come home usually around 6pm. My other roomates have different work schedules and we all have to leave each other's keys on the counter and move the cars every day! It's such a hassle like we're living in downtown LA or something.

I agree as well. In fact, there are only a few homes in the community that abuse the parking rules. Ex. ( all night parties with cars filling the streets). And these people are hardly ever ticketed. It seems like the security guard is afraid to ticket cars by these homes. We should either enforce the rule fairly or get rid of it all together.

I'm confused with what the problem is. Maybe I don't understand. But, every house has at least a 2 car garage and at least 2 parking spots in driveways. In our case, we can pretty easily park 6 cars, although we only regularly have 2 at our house (3 when the college-aged son returns).
I knew the covenants/rules before I purchased and liked the fact that I am in a community where people care about the look of the place. It's bad enough to own at the end of a cul-de-sac and nearly get blocked into (or out of) my own driveway when the neighbors have a party and our end of the street is filled with cars. I'm relieved it's not all night long that the streets are clogged.
I'm guessing it varies a bit in different parts of the community. But, bottom line, I knew the rules before I bought. I'm assuming everyone else did, too.

I agree. All you have to do is take a minute to call in the car so it does not get ticketed. Is it that much of a hassle? I am pretty sure you can put up to two cars on the"safe list"> Diamondgirl,in the amount of time you spent badmouthing the policy you could have put a couple of cars on the safe list. Really, how often are guests staying over? I can't imagine more than once a week. A 2 minute call will ease your pain.

I guess the real question is why is a community like ours so obsessed with whether someone keeps their car in the garage or in front of their home? Clearly there is not a premium on parking, we have an abundance of parking. I would think that more often than not people pull their cars in the garage or driveway.
The heart of the matter is, is it reasonable to demand homeowners to keep their cars in the garage and driveway, to mandate that all homeowners request permission for cars to be parked on the street! Don't we have more pressing issues that need oversight than parking? I think so. If this is a matter of a small percentage of homeowners causing the concern, the the Board has the tools and processes to deal with that. We should not mandate a rule to the majority if only a few are the problem.
Let's remember, the HOA Board are our representatives. Changes can be made to the CC&Rs. We have seen the board already make changes. The way to affect change within an HOA, If I remember correctly, is for those who want change to submit a petition to the board with 2/3 signatures of homeowners. At that time the Board can put said petition up for a community vote. afterwards, it is up to the Homeowners to vote. If we don't take the opportunity to vote to make a reasonable change, you can't complain.

Good point Calif4deck. A wise man once said. Be part of the solution, not part of Problem
