The article "Chagnon has top spot in finances," Feb. 15, was a well-documented and researched article dealing with campaign contributions for the upcoming Azusa mayoral and council election on March 6.
It not only informed the residents of Azusa of the amount of contributions that each of the eight candidates has raised up until Jan. 20, but also informed the residents of the fact that current Mayor Diane Chagnon and Councilman Angel Carrillo are the only two candidates that have accepted large contributions from developers, sub-developers and contractors currently involved in Azusa projects.
I could not help but notice the article just below the headline news of that same day dealing with U.S. Congressman Gary Miller, 42nd District ("Miller ties benefit developer"). Miller's ethics issues stem from his relationship with Lewis Operating Company, one of the Southland's largest real estate developers, as well as his questionable purchase and sale of properties.
As a 23-year resident of Azusa and a retired government employee involved in multi-million dollar construction and redevelopment projects for nearly 30years, I find the acceptance of campaign contributions from developers and contractors currently doing

business with the city of Azusa to be not only unethical but a conflict of interest.
That is why I was completely stunned and disappointed when I read your opinion section editorial ("Azusa City Council recommendations"), which gave your endorsements to Diane Chagnon for mayor and Angel Carrillo for councilman.
How can anybody endorse candidates who accept large contributions from developers and contractors currently doing business with the city of Azusa?
Whose best interest will they have in mind and at heart - the Azusa residents or the developers and contractors who contributed so much?
