has anyone experienced problems with excessive water in their yard? our landscape has been completed for a couple of months and about 4 weeks ago, when my landscaper dug holes for some final plants, the holes filled with water - i have a retaining 'waffle' wall, and the water comes in primarily through there. yesterday i noticed water in my south 'party' wall flower bed - my soil is extremely muddy and has a foul odor. my landscaper has come out to check the drains, we've turned off the sprinklers - standard pacific has had the bemus landscape company out to check the drains, all seems fine yet the water keeps coming. standard pacific just keeps telling me to be patient...just wondering if i'm the only one with this pesty (and bug infested) concern?

Rosy, perhaps the water is coming from your neighbors yard? Since you have a retaining wall in your back yard, I (maybe incorrectly) assume that there is a property directly in back of your house at a higher elevation. Maybe their water is draining down into your yard? Good luck with your situation.

We are having the same problem with our back yard. We don't have a retaining wall but we do have a house at a higher evelation then ours behind us. The problem I worry about is a deep trench is forming behind our fence.

We have had serious water problems too...over 6 months...we are still trying to get our landscaper to fix the drainage problem. We do not have a property higher than ours next door. Am interested to hear if others have had similar problems and what solutions they have found. Thanks.

It sounds liek your landscapers need to put more drainage in. Our landscaper put in drains all over the back and sides of our yard. We have never had a drainage problem and we have people above us and below us. Just make sure that the drains drain out into the gutter. I thought that it was overkill at the time that they put them in....but hearing the problems other people have had, I'm glad that he put in a lot of them. The water drains out pretty quickly even after a heavy rain.
Also, landscapers needs to prepare the soil properly before putting the plants in. I have noticed that some yards do not absorb the water very well and the water just runs off, resulting in hundreds of gallons of wasted water. Our garden can retain almost all of the water when our sprinklers are on.

Lester: I agree it looks like this soil (Mostly rocks) does not absorb well. Lots of drains and dig it out and replace with proper garden soil, good old well draining dirt....
By the way what is up with the van on the lawn?
