The purpose of this message is to give an update on the formation of a Neighborhood Watch Program for Mountain Cove. I hope this clears up any confusion, and hopefully creates interest in being an active participant.
At a Homeowners Association meeting last December, I briefly mentioned the advantages of Neighborhood Watch and introduced the concept of a telephone tree to facilitate distribution of pertinent information to our association members.
At the Spring Festival a roster of interested homeowners was developed with represenatation from The purpose of this message is to give an update on the formation of a Neighborhood virtually every street in the community.
A kickoff meeting was held in May for all those who signed up. Lt. Gene Street from the Police Department attended to give encouragement and support. The hope is that each street can be formed into a localized Neighborhood Watch, with coordination coming from a committee of Block Captains. Themes can be selected from an array of subjects offered by the National Council on Crime Prevention.
The first theme is the creation of a telephone tree of, hopefully, every home in the community. The purpose is not to create a telephone book for Mtn. Cove, but a notification program somewhat like a pyramid. Block Captains are now in the process of soliciting telephone numbers, but are finding it a challenge. I must emphasize that the numbers will be held in confidence with a representation from each street comprizing the trunk of the tree. With one or two phone calls from the authorities regarding an emergency, we can have virtually everyone receive the correct information within 4 or 5 calls.
If you would like to know more about this program please send me an e-mail and I will put you in contact with your Block Captain. You can contact me at pjmallon@charter.net. Also, if you want to become actively involved as a Captain or Cocaptain let me know.
Our next coordinators meeting will be held at the lodge on Wednesday, June 23rd. I hope to see you there!!!
