Azusa elementary named `California Distinguished School' celebrates with carnival
In honor of being named a California Distinguished School for 2012, Victor Hodge Elementary celebrated Friday by unveiling a new plaque and treating students to a day of carnival fun.
The school was one of nearly 400 in the state to receive the honor, which is bestowed on California's "most exemplary and inspiring public schools." The school also received a Title 1 Academic Achievement Award, which acknowledges efforts to increase achievement for low-performing students.
Following an unveiling ceremony for the new seal adorning the school's front wall, students there had a day of fun. The school had a photo booth, carnival games, nachos and popcorn. A D.J. provided music that the students readily danced to.
