City of Azusa Will Test Early Warning Siren Monday, October 25, 2010 and Tuesday, October 26
City of Azusa---A Siren test will be conducted on Monday, October 25, 2010, between 6:45 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and again on Tuesday, October 26, between 8 a.m. and 12 noon, in the City of Azusa. The siren is located near Highway 39 at the mouth of the Canyon, and will be tested at intervals for approximately 5 minutes. No action is necessary by residents during these tests.
The test will be conducted to ensure that the early warning system is operational and that the connection to the 9-1-1 Center of the Azusa Police Department is signaling correctly. The City of Azusa Office of Emergency Services, together with the Azusa Amateur-radio Communications Emergency Services (A.A.C.E.S.), a group of resident volunteers that provide emergency communications in the event of a disaster, will be coordinating this test. The siren is intended to evacuate residents in close proximity to the mouth of the Canyon in the event of Forest Fire or Flood. It is not expected that all residents would hear the siren if indoors, which is why the system is complementary to Emergency Response Personnel announcements, as well as door-to-door notification as part of the City’s Emergency Response Procedures.
