The City of Azusa is committed to making this 4th of July holiday season safe and enjoyable for everyone. Therefore, the City Council made several changes to the Azusa Municipal Code as it pertains to fireworks. Here are important Azusa Municipal Codes and other information to know this season:
„« Sec. 30-103 Permitted Discharge (Safe and Sane Fireworks)
„Ï May only be discharged on July 4th beginning at noon and ending at midnight in residential zones.
„Ï May not be discharged at any other time or place.
„Ï Shall not be discharged within 100 yards of any fireworks stand.
„Ï May not be discharged north of the centerline of Sierra Madre Avenue.
„« Sec. 30-137 Penalties
„Ï Administrative citations may be issued by the police for illegal discharge of safe and sane and illegal fireworks.
„Ï Violators will be fined $250 for the 1st violation and $500 for the 2nd violation.
„« California Health & Safety Code 12529
„Ï Defines safe and sane fireworks
„Ï Safe and sane fireworks have the State Fire Marshal (SFM) seal
„Ï As a rule of thumb, safe and sane fireworks do not explode, dart or travel.
„« California Health & Safety Code 12700
„Ï Defines the penalties for the discharge of illegal fireworks.
„Ï Violation of any provision of the State Fireworks Law or Regulation is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine from $500 to $1,000 or up to 1 year county jail
„« California Health & Safety Code 12671
„Ï Sell, offer for sale, possess, store, discharge, use or transport illegal fireworks.
„Ï This is the most common violation for fireworks not registered with the SFM.
This 4th of July, the Azusa Police Department will once again target those discharging illegal fireworks and will vigorously enforce the new City Municipal Codes and all other applicable laws.
