Dear Neighbors,
My name is Eddie Alvarez, and I am running for City Council. I am a lifelong resident of Azusa, and have seen many changes in our city throughout the years. I have always cared about the future of our city and desire only what is best.
After completing high school I joined the Navy and served four years of active duty. Upon my return, I enrolled in college and received my bachelors degree in Accounting from Cal Poly Pomona University. Shortly after graduation, I joined the Navy Reserves and now have over 15 years of military service. I was re-activated after the 9/11 attacks and served an additional nine months on active duty under Operation Enduring Freedom.
I have been in the field of auditing for over 14 years and am currently an Excise Tax Auditor with the Federal Government. I have performed audits on all three levels of government, which are local, state, and federal. This past year I also received my professional designation as a Certified Fraud Specialist. My wife and I now raise three children in Azusa and are active with the youth of Azusa. I am currently the Vice President of the Azusa Youth Program and have served on the board for 14 years, I served a two-year term as PTO President at St. Frances of Rome School, I am a member of the American Legion, and I am a member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 3522. Being active in the community has always been important to our family, as our parents were also very active in civic groups and senior citizens programs.
I ask for your vote on March 3, 2009 so that I will be given the opportunity to work on bringing new businesses to our community, while working to retain those we already have. I want to bring smart and responsible growth and development, always strive for the best in parks and recreation programs for our youth, and give our senior citizens the support they deserve. As a veteran, I understand how important it is to support them and show our appreciation. As a person with military experience, I understand accountability, responsibility, and service before self. Also, as one with accounting and auditing experience, I want to work to keep our city finances in the black and continue to maintain a balanced budget. Thank you and please vote on March 3, 2009.
Sincerely,
Eddie Alvarez
