We received a reassessment application for property taxes. It indicates that our property may have an over value assessment b/c of decline in property value. They want a fee for this service ($179)

Has anybody else received this letter? I want to make sure it's not a scam.

I did mine for free by following these steps.

lacountypropertytax.com/portal/contactus/contest.aspx

I filed an Appeal to the "Assessment Appeals Board". Was supposed to have a hearing in downtown LA this month.

They contacted me about 1 month before the hearing and lowered our taxes by 1K.

We bought in mid 2007.
