Anyone know what's going on with King Ranch Market site? Looks like the market has closed but there's no mention of it closing anywhere. Is Target going there??
(I hope not...just trying to imagine the traffic nightmare and people hanging out there till late- plus the area seems a bit small for a target).

That is exactly where Target is going, and that is why all the stores there have closed up. The Target store will be elevated with parking on the lower level. The design renderings are great, very Santa Barbara-ish. I for one am extremely happy to soon have a Target nearby .... and traffic is the kind of problem our Downtown NEEDS right now, if you know what I mean. The day we start complaining about our business districts being too busy with traffic? I welcome that day, because it's certainly better than the current situation of not enough going on.

The Target news is great news. We definately need some business here in Azusa. I am tired of all my sales tax dollars going to Glendora. I just hope the "Target Store" becomes a reality and not another empty lot.

I also agree that having more big businesses in the area will help the city and our property value. Target is a great store as an anchor and will attract more trendier small businesses.

The Target store is going to be delayed as far as the demolition of the old King Ranch building. I have been told it could be 3 to 6 months. What Azusa should do in the mean time is work on turning Azusa & San Gabriel into 2 - way streets. Shoppers will want convenience as far as traffic is concerned. Do San Gabriel first so you won't disrupt business along Azusa ave. We have already been awarded 2 million from the federal goverment to do this but the money is just sitting doing nothing.

Has anyone asked them if they would consider using part of the roof for a Target garden center? Seems like it would be a good place for one and it would put good use to the roof.

It was probably considered. It's a nice idea in theory, but expensive (involving another transport to a third story and roof integrity modifications...) - as well, it would involve getting approval to go past the proposed height the structure already goes. Lastly, the plans are already in and going through an application process. It would be WAY too expensive and delay the project considerably, to go back and redo them now.
I'm just glad it's moving forward, and that it wasn't delayed 3-6 months like the sparticus guy said it would be. It was supposed to begin in April, but only got pushed back to May. I think that's a good sign.
