26 Acres Purchased For Azusa River Wilderness Park Video Here: www.knbc.com/news/17551369/detail.htmlAZUSA, Calif. -- Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina announced Wednesday the purchase of 26 acres of land for the Azusa River Wilderness Park. The parcel, known as the Canyon Inn/Cool Springs Property, is situated directly adjacent to the Azusa River and brings the park's size to 75.7 acres, according to Molina. "Collectively all of us now have this given to us, and when we say given to us, it also means we inherit the responsibility and the duty to it," Molina said. Used in scenes for the 2005 film "Hostage," starring Bruce Willis, the parcel is at the northernmost point of a network of rivers, trails and green spaces dubbed the "Emerald Necklace," according to a statement released by Molina's office. The $3.5 million land purchase was made with funds from two state entities: the Resources Agency's River Parkway Program and the Rivers and Mountains Conservancy, according to Molina. The land will be available to hikers and cyclists, and used for outdoor learning experiences for local youth. "Can you imagine 5 minutes away from urban life we have this? We need to preserve it and take good care of it," said Azusa mayor Joseph Rocha.
