www.pasadenastarnews.com/news/ci_9654981"All of the negative impacts that come with mining will be borne by the city of Duarte," Duarte City Manager George said. The City of Azusa has let themselves get caught between a rock and a hard place on this issue (no pun intended). I don't agree with that at all - the microscopic dust particles that flow from nearby mining operations float to many nearby cities. Does anyone think differently - I'd like to hear why. From what I understand, the actual mining hasn't even started yet. They have been removing overburden, which apparently is the "top dirt" on top of the rock that they really want. How much more dust, noise and trucks will come when they begin full mining operations? Vulcan says they are only responding to the LA's needs for asphalt and construction and that they are an essential part of the So Cal's future... Does anyone out there really believe those are their pure intentions? Does anyone think they aren't acutely aware of major dust pollution, asthma and other issues caused by mining in such proximity to hundreds of thousands of people? It's all about risk mitigation for them. How little do they have to spend in capital to keep cities, people and environmental organizations dis-interested. They are a business and will bring in around $1 billion or more I'm told from the mining operations. That's more to the point. I am considering joining this Save Van Tassel group. www.savevantassel.com/
