The person leasing the club did not show up. That really does not look good for the club. The planning commission chose to continue the meeting to January 24th, 2007 to give the person leasing the club another opportunity to present his/her side. I think that it would start around 7pm.
The Redevelopment Agency, the current owner of the property, is requesting that they not be allowed to continue. The reason that they gave is that that the D-Club has previously had police calls in the past and that they are concerned with the liability. The Redevelopment Agency is trying to break their lease, stating that there was a “violation of the lease.”
I was hoping that the redevelopment agency would have looked more into the possibility of redeveloping the property to have a night club and potentially the pawn shop. I would hope that the redevelopment agency could see value in having a high quality professional club in the city. Being that the property needs to be redeveloped anyways, something with the level of quality as the House of Blues would be great. This area needs a wider variety of entertainment options: night clubs, comedy clubs, etc. The Smart City Grinds has already closed. It would be a big loss to lose another club.
Is there a type of club that the cty would be interested in supporting? What target market would they be interested in having? Maybe a high end club for professionals. Just a thought.
The leasor and leasee need to find a way to work together if there is any hope of keeping the club.

House of Blues? Wow - yes. I would be surprised if they would consider it, but it's actually an interesting idea. There is nothing like that (entertainment), with their brand name recognition, in this area.
Just a dance club? Ahh, no.

Unfortunately, there is some misinformation.
The owner of the club did not attend this meeting because, during a previous closed session, the owner's attorney had discussed the matters at hand. There has been police and city harassment to the owner and it's patrons, mainly because there is a gay themed night at the club.
I've personally seen the police blocking the exits and parking their cars right in front of the club, so it's patrons have to walk around. There were no fights or problems that night, and no excuse to be so intimidating. I think this is wrong and i'm glad the city is being sued because of it.
