Religious group sues over rezoning
AZUSA - The International Theological Seminary of El Monte has sued the city of Azusa for rezoning property the group owns and on which the group hoped to develop a religious retreat, according to court documents.
The religious organization filed suit Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleging that the city's action prevented the group from developing the land.
The lawsuit calls the new zoning "the result of religious animosity toward the plaintiff and its members and constituents."
The seminary bought 33 acres in the 2200 block of San Gabriel Canyon Road in January 2004, the lawsuit says. The property was zoned for commercial and residential-agricultural use at the time.
I'm not sure, but I think that this is part of the property that the city wants to create a wilderness park in order to help meet its goals in having a certain amount of acreage of parks available for its residents based on various studies on what is needed for the city.
