I have been waiting for a local Japanese restaurant and was very excited to see that one was coming to Azusa.
Last week my husband and I tried the new restaurant on Azusa Avenue and it was great! The menu has many options besides sushi like noodles, teriyaki, salads and tempura. The sushi itself was excellent! It was fresh, and prepared beautifully by our Sushi Chef Tommy.
The atmosphere was also very pleasant. The staff was attentive and friendly. I would recommend that my Azusa neighbors also give it a try!

I went the first day, we sat in the back and the service could have been more responsive... not too bad for the 1st day. But the food was fresh and moderately priced. We've also ordered out with a 15 minute lead time and everything was ready. We'll be going there often.

We have been twice~ we found that the service was great and were very surprised to discover that the sushi was excellent. I believe the owner has two other restaurants~ one is in Arcadia. We plan on going back again soon. It is definitely the best we have found any place nearby. The atmosphere at somewhere like Sushi Roku in Pasadena is better but I definitely think Arigato has sushi and salads that are just as good. They said they are turning the back into an outdoor garden type dining facility too. I hope they stay around!

I can't wait to try Arigato, but in response to the comment about ''better atmosphere'' at Sushi Roku... let me just say that place outright sucks. Some of the hostesses have the worst attitude, looking and acting as if they're bitter angry rejects from 80's Robert Palmer videos. The sushi at Wockano is much better... not as good as it used to be several months ago, but still better than Sushi Roku and their atmosphere is MUCH hipper and way less pretentious. But I guess if ''holier than thou'' is one's definition of a great atmosphere, then Sushi Roku would be a winner....
I don't know if the staff at Roku tries to ''act'' more important to make their restaurant look that ''exclusive,'' but I would never be put upon by some hostess or server when it's actually ME who pays their wage. I just see them as stupid and delusional.
To me, welcoming attitude and great service both mean a lot. That said, it sounds like Arigato's service is much better than Roku.

Ummm OK~ I've met friends at Sushi Roku for happy hour a few times and enjoyed it. Sorry that you had such a bad experience. I really was speaking more about the decor then anything else. I liked the rock accents and the water features. Fortunately for us, we found the service and ambiance to be very pleasant as well. I'm not particularly looking for the hippest place...downtown Azusa probably isn't going to be a contender quite yet either. I enjoy places with good food where I can enjoy good company in a clean, friendly environment.

I ate here last night for the first time. Non-fish offerings were limited to Chicken or Beef Terriyaki. No steaks, none of that one dish with the noodles and chicken or steak.
In a city with a predominantly latino population, I am afraid that this restaurant is doomed for failure. I was there at prime time on Thursday night (about 7:30PM) and there were only two other customers. Service was fine (yes she was), but if all there is for me on the menu is terriyaki, I will go to B-Man's or Spikes.
On another note, Sunrise Cafe is pretty good for breakfast, but I have never been a big fans of Tops lunch/dinner menu (same owners as Tops at Sunrise). I much prefer The Hat.
