northeast corner of San Gabriel Avenue and Sixth Street as the first location to be built. The site, named Heritage Square, could accommodate a three-level structure, which would increase the number of current spaces from 38 to 255.


Another three-level garage supplying 255 spaces is also recommended a half block away on San Gabriel Avenue with a third garage proposed on San Gabriel Avenue and Foothill Boulevard where a Sav-On sits. A fourth garage is proposed for the east side of Azusa Avenue just north of Foothill Boulevard where ground-floor retail could also work. With the anticipation of the Gold Line station coming to Ninth Street between Azusa Avenue and Alameda Street, an initial temporary surface lot of 200 spaces could give way to a future three-tiered garage with 390 spaces, or 520 in a four-level garage.

I noticed the article on that too. Gee, what a fine face that will put on downtown Azusa: a big parking garage right on Foothill next to Savon. What are these idiots thinking?

I believe the plan's purpose is to designate specific locations for future parking structures as development is occurring (and to get the developers to pay for it). We can't forget to allocate space for parking like downtown Pasadena. I don't believe they are going to run out and build five parking garages with no retail to back it. I could be wrong - I hope not.
