Hello! Is everyone aware of the coyotes here in our area?? We live just south of the San Gabriel Gun Club area, off Encanto Parkway, near Encanto Park, about a mile southwest of Mountain Cove. The coyotes come often, mostly dusk to dawn, (but they can come in daylight, too)- we've see them, they are quite beautiful and interesting. They will come right up into your yard. They are solo, or in small groups. They eat rabbits in the river/bed, you can hear their odd howls and screams when they get an animal (their dinner). They can jump over very high fences, I have personally seen this. They recently killed pet cats in our neighborhoods, (one at 6 am-three weeks ago) so...please keep your beloved cats and dogs indoors during dusk to dawn especially- and watch your animals closely if you let them out at night or evening, or early morning to "potty"- it can happen in a blink of an eye. Pet rabbits or other small pets are also very high risk to be attacked, here in this area. Also, be particularly cautious with small children, although I have never personally heard of any coyote attack reports on children in this area, but it is possible, and it has happened, although rarely, in other areas. Let's remember, though , the coyotes were here first, we are actually residing in their habitat, and they are as part of our wild Western heritage as tumbleweeds, mustangs, and cowboys. from your neighbors in DANORA www.danoracanyon.com

Riverandcanyon, thank you for the detailed info on the coyotes. They do make an interesting howling sound when they catch dinner! It's a little creepy. However, I love the fact that we're in such close proximity to nature. With respect for this and other wildlife in our area, I completely welcome it.
Thanks for website link to danoracanyon.com. I am excited to see folks from Duarte extend out a welcome to us in Azusa regarding your efforts. I looked at the website and I think it's an excellent step forward to addressing quality of life issues in this area (Fish Canyon, Rock Quarry, Gun noise, hiking trails, bike path, etc.). I am going on the hike to Fish Canyon tomorrow and will take digital picture to share so others can see (what I've been told) is an amazingly beautiful hike and waterfall.
Hopefully other Mountain Covers and those from Mirador and Crystal Canyon codos will join danora as well.
