Mass. lawmakers pass bill to require health insurance for all
Something needs to be done. I hope that it works.
Do the premiums go up by age? If not, that may be a good idea. It would be nice to know that my premiums would not be 20 times more than when I was younger.
So it sounds like if you earn more than $48k a year, you would need to pay deductibles. I wonder how high those can go?
I hate that so many people must go bankrupt each year because of health care expenses. It is wrong that people have to be so focused on health care costs when they are dealing with health issues. That is stressful enough.
Lawmakers overwhelmingly approved a bill Tuesday that would make Massachusetts the first state to require that all of its citizens have some form of health insurance.
The plan hinges in part on two key sections: the $295-per-employee business assessment and a so-called "individual mandate," requiring every citizen who can afford it to obtain health insurance or face increasing tax penalties.
Single adults making $9,500 or less a year will have access to health coverage with no premiums or deductibles.
Those living at up to 300 percent of the federal poverty level, about $48,000 for a family of three, are also big winners. Under the bill, they will be able to get health coverage on a sliding scale also with no deductibles.
