The first forum will be held 7 p.m. Monday in Mountain Cove Community Lodge, 11 Wildflower Way, Azusa. The second is scheduled 7 p.m. Oct. 19 in Azusa City Hall, 213 E. Foothill Blvd., Azusa. There are three open seats. The candidates are incumbents Xilonin Cruz-Gonzalez, Rosemary P. Garcia and Lisa Harrington and challengers Barbara Ransom Dickerson and John Dierking. Anti-mining group to meet Thursday AZUSA -- A grass-roots group interested in stopping additional mining in the foothills above Azusa, will hold a community meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday in Azusa City Hall, 213 E. Foothill Blvd. The group, Citizens United to Save Van Tassel Ridge, say they are against the dust created by mining operations at Azusa Rock, a 350-acre quarry above Foothill Boulevard on the border of Azusa and Duarte. Azusa Rock is owned and operated by Vulcan Materials Co. The dust, they say, increases health risk and and can cause respiratory diseases. For more information, visit www.savevantassel.com.
