Eight of the 10 major dams in the region -- including the Pacoima and Mulholland dams, with a combined capability of 42.9 billion gallons of water --were built in the 1920s or 1930s and may not withstand a major quake. The four major dams in the San Gabriel Valley are the Morris Dam, San Gabriel Dam, Santa Anita Dam and Cogswell Dam.
