Hi All,
Recently, my Lennox AC unit that came with the house broke down. The repair man replaced the capaciter a few weeks ago. The unit worked for awhile, then Monday it wasn't blowing cold air anymore. The repair guy came back and after checking it out said I'd need a new compressor or better yet, just buy a new AC unit.
Does anyone know if the original AC units are still under warranty, specifically the compressor?
Second question, he recommends Payne (part of Carrier) as a replacement brand. He says he sees the least amount of issues with their brand - anyone use that brand? Or recommend something else? He said a new 3 ton unit, 14 seer, would cost approx. $2500. Any thoughts if you've gone through this recently would help!!

Our downstairs AC broke and we called Montano Air System, who we have been with for about 10 yrs. His prices are reasonable and he does a good job. He charged us $350 to put a starter kit. His name is Keith Montano @ (562) 925-5982 or (562) 947-5525. Good luck,

Thank you for the reference - I will probably use them next time. As a follow up, I called Westpac Air Conditioning, the folks who originally installed our AC units in Mtn Cove. I asked them about the warranty situation. Initially the service rep said it's warranty is one year. But then, I asked them how long the compressor (main part of the unit) is warranted for and she said, "Oh, that's a 5 year warranty". Good thing I asked!
They are coming out to replace soon, but they will charge for a service call ($120 for a half hour!!) but no charge on the compressor which is about $1000.
