ROCHA/MACIAS - A TEAM WE CAN TRUST FOR ALL OF AZUSA ;D
On January 31st Mountain Cove residents hosted a community forum. All candidates vying for a spot on the Azusa City Council were in attendance with the exception of Mr. Dierking who was ill. The questions were tough but fair and I came away with a new understanding on the candidates and their positions on various issues. I, along with many other residents will be voting for Mr. Joe Rocha for Mayor and Mr. Uriel Macias for city council.
I was very impressed with Mr. Rocha's knowledge and position on the issues. What most impressed me were his sincerity, morals and ethics and his concern for our natural resources. Likewise, his genuine desire to assist children and seniors was demonstrated far beyond those of his opponent. He is for Smart Growth and Development. He is for safer schools and neighborhoods. He is an advocate for protecting our natural resources and against future mining and scaring of our mountains. He's also a champion for our children, seniors, veterans and the less fortunate.
Mr. Rocha will be a Mayor for all of Azusa. His voting record proves that he is for growth and development. He believes in smart growth that takes into consideration its impact on the Azusa family and our natural resources.
Rocha is not afraid to stand up to corporate giants. He successfully stopped the first Rosedale "cookie cutter" project because it was wrong for Azusa. He supported the second Rosedale project and was even appointed co-chair of the development. The community trusts his judgment and character to do the right thing.
Mr. Uriel Macias is equally impressive with an extensive background in business and finance. He was our former city treasurer and saved the city over 2 million dollars during his tenure. He also is currently serving on the city Personnel commission and mirrors many of Mr. Rocha's concern over the environment and smart growth and development.
Unlike some of the incumbents ,Mr. Rocha and Mr. Macias have not accepted any contributions from special interests or outside developers. They both stated that they will only be beholden to the Azusa residents.
Both Mr. Rocha and Mr. Macias are against the scaring and additional mining of our mountains.
On two separate occasions in recent years, our current Mayor Mrs. Chagnon, came to Mountain Cove with Vulcan Mining Co. to present their expansion plan. The residents were made to understand that the city could not fight Vulcan and were asked what kind of concessions we, the residents, wanted in exchange for allowing the mining of an additional 80 acres.
The city of Azusa, through a vehicle known as it's citizens congress, polled the residents on the direction they would like the city to take regarding this and other issues. The resulting study made it clear that allowing the mining expansion is not what the residents want. Additional mining, for any price, is not in the best interest of the residents of Azusa or it's neighbors. Additional mining will continue to inflict damage on our children and elderly by having them ingest the airborne contaminates. Our residents, children's health and well-being has no price tag.
Our city needs strong, ethical leaders to lead Azusa, We need leaders whose only special interest is the residents of Azusa.
I encourage you and your friends and neighbors to vote Joe Rocha for Mayor and Uriel Macias on March 6th.
A team we can trust, The right choice for Azusa.
