Great shots! The fire department did a fantastic job. Does anybody know where and how the fire started in the first place? I got home and checked the board hoping the info would be posted.

I was told that it was teenagers and that there are witnesses. Hopefully they turn themselves in. I think that they know where they live.

From the article... >>>"I got all the food and drinks ready ... now we might have to go somewhere else,' said Juan Lopez of Los Angeles.<<< I wish they would shut down the Canyon to traffic for the rest of the summer before someone starts a MAJOR fire, as there was last year. Sorry that Mr. Lopez was so inconvenienced by the fire that threatened all of our homes!

Are we sure it wasn't the gun club?

Unless the gun club members teenagers, I don't think so. Again, I think the fire department has a pretty good idea of who they are. There were witnesses of teenagers running away from where the fire was started. Actually, I think that they are residents of Mountain Cove.

Here's two more that we took as we were driving out. This really brought to light a lack of knowledge on my family's part - not having our neighbor's telephone numbers handy (cell or home), not knowing a general emergency information number to call to find out if/when we could return to our homes, etc. Needless to say, this will all be corrected quickly! And thanks to ALL the emergency services that responded!

Hi, Lester mentions below in his post that we already have an emergency phone tree in place as part of the Neighborhood Watch program here at Mtn Cove. If you would like to be a Block Captain or at the very least find out who your current Block Captain is to get on the phone tree, please email Pat Mallon at pmallon@charter.net. It will only take a few minutes to exchange your phone information (which is of course confidentially kept) w/your street captain. So far, I think the phone tree has been utilized 3 times in the last 18 months for various reasons and it's helped spread the word on our street for emergencies, HWY 39 closures, etc. I hope more get involved. I hope that something good can come out of yesterday's horrible event. I hope that it at least helps bring the community together even closer than it already was. I also hope that more people get involved with the neighborhood watch program. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Pat Mallon at pmallon@charter.net We found that many of the team captains were not even in Mountain Cove at the time of the event, so it would be helpful to have more backup people so that the tree will still work even if many people are gone at the time. The main involvement is going to meetings a couple times a year and just making sure that the contact tree has the data necesssary to contact people in an emergency. So please help protect your family and friends by joining the neighborhood watch. Thank you.

How selfish of you Rocco to wish the canyon could be shut down for the remainder of the summer. Many people live up there and many go up every weekend for recreation purposes. The canyon won't be shut down just so you won't have to worry about another fire. You chose to live in a canyon where fires are bound to happen, always have always will. You need to use your community watch program and just be there for each other in case there is another fire that puts your neighborhood in jeopardy. Be prepared and be fire safe.

If anybody knows more about who these teens were that set off the firecrackers/made the fire-pit and where they live I truly hope they will see it as their civic duty to report what they know to the police or Euclid. The perpetrators need to be held accountable for their actions and their parents need to be clued in. Our community narrowly avoided what could have been a huge catastrophe.
